Greetings all friends! We will have a trip to Medellin in Mid-July. We have been to Bogota several times so we are not totally fresh to the hobby. And thanks a lot to the people who share their knowledge and experience in this forum! I hope you have some COP pesos left from your previous trip. If you have been to Bogota, you'd know never to exchange money at the airport. You are bound to get at least 15% less. Try not to use the ATMs at the airport as well. Their exchange rate is worse than those in town.
Once you are in town, your best bet is getting COP from ATMs. Hopefully you already have a bank card that doesn't have foreign exchange surcharges and rebate your ATM withdrawal fees.

There are more advanced apps like Remitly that supposedly offer very good exchange rates but this old goat don't know much about them.

@FuManChu gave great advice all around but I'll add a few things

1 - One, he is spot on in the financial advice regarding ATMs. And regarding the exchange places, that link is good too since they link out to the places that put their rates online so you can price shop before you go.

Personally I just use my Schwab to pull money out of the ATM and I get the price in between the spread, so basically better than out of any money exchange place. But if you do go to a money exchange place, use his links from that article.


2 - ATV, Paintball, Horseback, Zipline, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Waterfall tours, Various Downtown/City tours (on bike or foot), etc. Plus a bunch of different food tours (coffee, exotic fruit) if that is your thing. Some tours mix many of these. Some downtown tours mix in street/local food, etc.


3 - Just to add, if you are getting your own condoms, buy in country too. Don't bring a bunch with you through customs. Easy way to get turned around.
