Sup guys.

Planning my trip to Medellin for the first time and heard it's not easy to get a SIM at the MDE Airport. Do you know if Claro sells esims for tourists before arriving to the country? Not wanting to use the gigagos or that other stuff where price is more inflated.

I typically go to Jumbo and buy the SIM card there. I think I paid like 30mins or $8 USD for 8-10GBs or maybe it was 15-20GBs. Whatever it is, Airport will charge you way more. But it is convenient.

Make sure that you device/phone is unlocked so you could use the sim.

I always rock an eSIM before I arrive as they're super cheap for 1GB. If you use a promo code you can get your first 1GB for less than a dollar. Then you have time to find a normal SIM. Now that iPhones don't have sim slots though, things are more complicated, and the foreign eSIM isn't a great deal for South America.

BNEsim.com has a 1GB colombian SIM for $5.90 but if you use code Z1VMNBWV you get 5E discount, but I think they still make you pay $1.

JetPac is solid too, looks like you can get first 1GB or you can use promo code RYAARS66 you can get $5 off too.

If you have multiple emails, you can continue to get the sign up bonus over and over.

To get a local eSIM just head to the nearest mall once you arrive and hit up the Claro or Movistar. My latest plan was 33gb for 22000COP ($4).

It is very easy to get a SIM card at the airport. There is a store in departures across from the 3 ATMs. You’ll get a SIM card with a lot of data for $10 in minutes.

eSIM is another story. I have only ever gotten eSIM once, always told you must do a post pay account. The one place that did it the one time, refused to do it again a month later. The claro store in Santa Fe Mall will do eSIM, but you have to sign up for a post pay account and pay 3 months in advance.

I made my life easier by switching to GoogleFi for cell service. Pay $160 a month for 4 lines. Includes international roaming in most countries, and works seamlessly. Already used it this year in Canada, UK, Netherlands, DR, Panama, and 7 times in Colombia
